Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar today said that heavy expenditures in Lok Sabha and assembly elections is dangerous for a healthy democracy.
"I visited few other states besides Maharashtra and saw that the expenditure of money was too high, and it was used to lure voters. This is very dangerous for a healthy democracy.
Many people who are contesting elections are selling their lands to meet the expenses of elections," Pawar, who was speaking after the inauguration of first crushing season of Sagar Sahkari Sugar Factory Ltd here, said.
He urged farmers to go for subsidiary business with farming and suggested that they should accept latest technologies for production of various crops in all the seasons.
The agriculture minister announced that Rs3 lakh would be given to farmers as loans for cash crops soon.
He also assured that the production of milk in this year will be the highest.
