It looks like commuters complaint of indicators going blank after 10pm at suburban stations along Central Railway (CR) and leaving them clueless will finally be resolved. CR officials said that they have an embedded software in the new train operations system that connects with indicators at all the stations and will keep them running 24x7. “The software, that is a part of the train management system, will also upgrade the indicators with the real-time movement of train and keep commuters informed accordingly,” a CR spokesperson said.
The complaint that indicators remained off at certain smaller stations during night due to lack of staff will be automatically looked into. The operations of the system, which have already begun functioning partially, will soon be fully operational as the railways need to replace the old train indicators with new ones, compatible with the system.
“There were always complaints about smaller stations like Nahur, Currey Road, Chinchpokli, Parel that indicators used to go blank during the night time. The new system will also help the railways to maintain punctuality in the monsoon. Once the project is implemented, we will be able to keep track of all suburban trains and put up countdown timers on a minute to minute basis at stations for commuters to know that in how many more minutes should they expect the next train,” a senior railway official said.Rajendra Aklekar
