The humid afternoons have given way to cooler evenings and one can finally feel the winter nip in the air.

With the morning becoming cooler than before and the afternoons being less hot, the weathermen claim that winter has set in the city.

“The official winter season began from October 1. Earlier, the direction of wind flow was towards the east. This was preventing a dip in the temperature. The change in the wind flow pattern is leading to decrease in the temperature,” said VK Rajeev, Director IMD.

The minimum temperature in the city has been on the decline for a week now. The temperature recorded during night and wee hours fluctuated between 20°C and 19.8°C. But over the last 48 hours, the minimum temperature has dipped to 19° C.

The maximum temperatures have also plummeted. The maximum temperature at Colaba stood at 31.3°C while the maximum temperature at Santa Cruz was 33°C. December’s mean maximum temperature looms around 32°C.

The mean minimum temperature is around 18.2°C. The temperature level is bordering near the expected temperature levels. Due to which the weather is becoming colder, said a weather officials.

“A week ago, the city’s temperature was four degree above normal. At present, the temperature is two degrees above normal,” added Rajeev.

The IMD predicts that the temperature is further set to dip by the weekend.

“The temperature is set to decline further in the next 48 hours. Although due to the proximity to the sea, the temperature variation seems negligible but slowly the temperature variation will be apparent by the weekend,” Rajeev added.
