Std X students of the Central Board of School Education (CBSE) received their mark sheets on Monday after a month-long scare of not being able to secure admission to state board junior colleges in time.
The new mark sheets, which have been changed in accordance with the Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) scheme introduced recently by CBSE, have put a lot of emphasis on co-scholastic areas like life skills, values, personality development, and good behaviour.
School principals said that almost three-fourth of the mark sheet has given importance to co-scholastic areas, while only one-fourth focuses on scholastics. In an attempt to create a stress-free environment, students have been assessed on their strengths, positive characteristics, and willingness to participate in extra-curricular activities, among others.
Avnita Bir, principal of RN Podar School, Santa Cruz, said, “This is the first time any board in the country has given mark sheets that focus on a students’ all-round development. Now, to score well in the board exams, students do not have to rote learn. Instead, points are given on the basis of development in the student's personality,” she said.
While the meeting between CBSE officials and the state government over the issue of admissions to state board colleges was postponed indefinitely, mark sheets in hand, many CBSE students have started submitting online admissions forms to junior colleges.
