Mumbai’s betting racket will be exposed in a forthcoming Hindi movie titled World Cupp 2011, whose director and actor, Ravi Kapoor, says his tryst with betting, for which he got in touch with real bookies in the city, has formed the backbone of his research. Ravi will names these bookies in the movie, which will also depict corrupt ex-cricketers who had been accused of match fixing.

Ravi also claims that he will point a finger at current members of the Indian team, accusing them of betting. Though he admits he cannot take names, Ravi says the suggestions in his film will be enough for audiences to know which cricketers he is talking about.

“I did a thorough two-year research on the subject before starting on the project. I know a number of bookies, and through them, now understand how this racket operates. I even bet on a number of matches to win their confidence.

“Soon, they started talking to me about the fixing part as well. My film will show how money is delivered to the key players who then go on to under-perform. Not all Men in Blue take money though. But some surely do,” Ravi claims. He adds: “I have also unmasked the truth behind some recent underworld incidents like the firing at film producer Mahesh Bhatt, which was engineered by gangster Ravi Pujari.”

Ravi says that India’s defeat at the hands of minnows Bangladesh in the last World Cup compelled him to explore the angle of match fixing in cricket.

“Being a state-level player myself, I just could not digest the fact that we could loose to Bangladesh after upsetting Australia in just a match before. I have had to edit certain parts as the public would have been heart broken had they found out the entire truth.”
