A 30-member delegation of victims of the July 11, 2006 serial train blasts, led by former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member of Parliament Dr Kirit Somaiya, met governor of Maharashtra K Sankaranarayanan at Raj Bhavan on the fifth anniversary of the terror attacks.

The delegation complained to the governor about the slow pace of judicial proceedings in the case. They said the hearing in the case is yet to conclude in the sessions court of Mumbai and that some of the absconding terrorists are still in Pakistan. They requested that a fast-track court or a special court be set up to expedite the judicial process.

The victims said that they and their families are still suffering from not just the memories of the traumatic experience but also subsequent surgeries and prolonged medical treatment. They demanded that special efforts be taken to bring the accused from Pakistan.

“The most saddening part is that at the end of five years, the judicial hearing is yet to conclude in the lowest court, that is the sessions court of Mumbai, and that the accused have absconded to Pakistan,” a letter they submitted to the governor said.

“We the victims are suffering psychologically and physically, while the terrorists and criminals are free and enjoying life. It is a tragedy that we were travelling on the ill-fated local trains on that day. Thousands of victims and family members belong to the lower-middle and middle classes. Relief, rehabilitation and justice for them will take another ten years,” the letter added.

The letter pointed out that the 26/11 case had been fast-tracked, but this one had remained pending The blasts that took place in seven trains on Western Railway in a span of 11 minutes on that fateful day had killed 187 people and injured over 800.

The 13 accused arrested in the case are Faisal Shaikh, Ali Bashir Khan, Mohammad Ali, Majid Shafi, Sajid Ansari, Kamal Ansari, Ethesham Siddiqui, Zameer Shaikh, Sohail Shaikh, Muzammil Shaikh, Tanvir Ansari, Naveed Hussain and Abdul Shaikh.
