A police complaint has been filed against a popular fast-food outlet at Carter Road in Bandra for serving chicken piece to a vegetarian.

An officer of the Khar police station said Girish Chandwani, 29, and his friends went to the fast-food outlet to grab a quick bite on Monday night. Chandwani, a vegetarian, ordered a paneer tikka sandwich while his friends opted for non-vegetarian ones.

“Just as I was about to take a bite, I saw that along with the paneer there was a chicken piece in my sandwich,” said Chandwani, who works in a commodity brokerage firm in Fort.

Chandwani said that when he complained to the staff, they refused to apologise. “I called one of the managers of the outlet but he too did not pay attention to my complaint. I then called the police,” he said.

Upset with the staff’s behaviour, Chandwani lodged a complaint against the fast-food chain with the Khar police station on Tuesday morning.

According to Chandwani, the hygiene level maintained at the eatery was questionable. “When I checked the place where the eatables were kept, I was stunned to find several flies and spiders on the vegetables,” he said.

"It was clear that the restaurant functions without maintaining the required hygiene standards." The Khar police has lodged a non-congnisable complaint in the case under sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
