Thane: With the arrest of six persons the Thane police claimed to have burst a factory manufacturing fake batteries of mobiles of renown brands.
Giving this information here the additional commisisoner of police (crime) Prashant Burde told reporters that from the arrested police recovered the accessories used to manufacture the batteries and also a large stock of batteries of various brands.
The value of the seized batteries is more than Rs1 crore, Burde said.
Acting on a tip-off that a large stock of fake batteries were being transported to Mumbai the staff of the crime branch kept a vigil at Kawla and intercepted a Tata Sumo, he said.
A search of the vehicle revealed that in fact a large stock of fake batteries were loaded in the vehicle which was seized by the police.
The police also arrested two persons who were the occupants of the vehicle and their names were given as Bharatkumar Jain and Dileep More.
A close interrogation of the duo revealed that there was a factory at Dapoda near Bhiwandi where the fake batteries were being manufactured, police said. The police seized machineries used for the manufacture of the batteries besides the holograms of various mobile companies.
The main brain behind the racket is Rakesh Jain who has a mobile accessories shop in the Manish Market in south Mumbai the police said, adding that the shop was also raided by the police.
Police also arrested Momin Sarjil, Abhishekh Jain and Imran Ansari in connection with the racket, taking the total figure of arrested to six.
The police recovered 35,000 fake batteries of well-known companies - Nokia, LG, Motorala, and Tata Indicom, and 10,000 dry cells from the arrested, police said.
