The senior citizen stated in the complaint that the duo posing as policemen met her at Bhusari Colony on Tuesday morning and asked her to keep her gold ornaments valued at Rs78,500 in a bag, and fled with the booty.
According to the police, Kalindi and her son Dhudiraj Joshi were staying in the city for the last few days at Bhusari Colony. On Tuesday morning, the motorcycle-borne duo met Kalindi in Bhusari colony area when she was going to book a state transport (ST) bus ticket.
Assistant inspector SP Solunke of Kothrud police station said, “The ‘policemen’ told Kalindi that a ‘Gangubai’s’ murder has taken place in the area and asked her to keep her jewellery in a bag. Later, they fled with the bag.”
The suspects told the victim that they are searching for the murder suspects and will be back soon. Solunke said, “The victim approached us after the suspects didn’t turn up.”
However, the investigators said that the suspects’ appearance and features described by the victim is similar to those of men in the force.
A city crime branch inspector told DNA, “The crime is committed in a professional manner and only those who know the police force could do it.”
The police suspect their own men’s involvement in the crime.
A few months ago, the city police had started an awareness drive with their personnel on vehicles requesting citizens over the loudspeakers to not fall prey to such tricks by fake policemen. However, assistant commissioner of police (crime) Vinod Satav refused to comment on the latest incident.
