With the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, the issue of unemployment has become the centre point of all political campaigns in the city.

On Wednesday, Swabhimaan Sanghatana, an organisation started by Nitesh Rane went about handing out on-the-spot jobs to 25,000 youth.

Rane taunted his rival party Shiv Sena when he said, “We do not hold coaching classes for entrance exams. Instead, we gave jobs to the unemployed youth.”

Rane, son of Sena rebel and Industries Minister Narayan Rane, claimed to have fulfiled the promise he had made to the people.
Recently, the issue of providing jobs has become the main agenda for all the major political parties.

Earlier in the year, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) had launched statewide campaign for the railway recruitment process.
Following this, the Shiv Sena affiliated Sthaniya Lokadhikar Samiti (SLS) also took an initiative in the process of recruitment of people into nationalised banks. This was later emulated by the MNS.

The top leaders of these parties, including MNS chief Raj Thackeray, and Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray have taken a keen interest in all these campaigns. However, these campaigns until now were limited in providing guidance and coaching classes for the entrance exams.

Rane, with his job fair in the city has gone one step ahead and claimed to provide jobs on the spot. “Instead of putting up posters, I believe in giving results,” Rane said.
