Pune and Mumbai will continue to experience the present lull in rainfall activity for the next 48 hours. According to the officials of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the two cities would experience only a few spells of rain over the next two days. Rainfall activity in Maharashtra is expected to intensify only around June 28-29.

IMD's director for weather forecasting, Medha Khole, told DNA on Friday that the lull in rainfall activity was not unusual.

"This is a typical, intra seasonal variability of monsoon experienced during the season," Khole said.

According to Khole, Pune would experience only scattered rainfall in the next 48 hours. Khole said that the deep depression that had formed in the Bay of Bengal had moved from Chhattisgarh to Rajasthan, giving heavy rain to central India and Rajasthan, but reducing the rainfall in Maharashtra. However, the Konkan coast would continue to receive widespread rainfall over the next 48 hours.

When contacted, IMD's Colaba observatory told DNA that Mumbai is also expected to receive only a few spells of rain and showers in the city and suburbs over the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile, coastal Kerala, Karnataka, Goa and Konkan will continue to receive fairly widespread rainfall.
