Of the 75 colleges of various disciplines of medical sciences whose applications for renewal were rejected by the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), 16 are from Mumbai and four from Pune.

These colleges impart education in disciplines like homeopathy, nursing, dentistry, physiotherapy and occupational therapy.

The admission process to medical science colleges ends on September 15.
The vice chancellor of the varsity, Dr Arun Jamkar told DNA these colleges have been given a month's time to meet the criteria for renewal of affiliation.

"Some of these colleges are already in the process of fulfilling the criteria. If we are satisfied, the renewal of affiliation would be granted by MUHS," he added.

The varsity on July 28 had announced that it had rejected the applications for renewal of affiliation of 75 colleges as they failed to meet the criteria to impart education.

It has cautioned students seeking admissions to check the list of the affiliated colleges from the varsity website, www.muhsnashik.com.

Jamkar said the academic council of MUHS has decided to get all the colleges accredited under National Assessment & Accreditation Council (Naac).

The decision will be communicated to the colleges.
