Environment-friendly structures on anvil, says Sachin Ahir

The minister of state for environment and housing said that the government is actively considering ways in which all future government buildings are green constructions.

The minister of state for environment and housing, Sachin Ahir, said that the government is actively considering ways in which all future government buildings are green constructions.

He was talking after the function at the YB Chavan Center that was held to celebrate the World Environment Day on Sunday.

The function was attended by the chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, minister of state for environment Sanjay Devtale, environment secretary Valsa Nair Singh, and member secretary MPCB Radheshyam Mopalwaar.

Ahir was reacting to a suggestion made by Ajit Pawar. Pawar said, “Before asking others to construct green buildings, we should do it ourselves too.”

Ahir said that they will have to look and work out how future Mhada buildings too can be green buildings.

“There is construction work for Dharavi and Mhada and we can look at this for them too. But the priority will be affordable housing in those cases,” he said.

Ahir said the state were marking out areas in plots given by government to have only trees, planting trees be made compulsory on plots that are vacant.

The state  also declared degree programs initiation by it on environment along with giving away of prizes.
