A fireman posted at the Marol office injured a colleague’s head with a sickle, allegedly because he was unhappy with his duty hours. Both were on duty when the incident took place around 12.30 am on Saturday.

Police said Mangesh Vasudev, 56, and Liyaqat Shaukat Ali, 45, regularly fought with each other regarding duty shifts. On Saturday, Ali picked up a sickle lying on the office premises and attacked Vasudev before fleeing.

“We have registered a case of attempt to murder against Ali and are trying to trace his location. Vasudev, who stays in Marol, Andheri (East), was rushed to KEM Hospital where he got stitches. He is out of danger,” said senior inspector Pradeep Suryavanshi of the MIDC police station.

A fire brigade official said on condition of anonymity: “Ali, who resides in Mumbra, may have been frustrated because he was called to work from such a long distance by duty warden Vasudev on a Saturday. The Juhu bungalow of IPL commissioner Lalit Modi had caught fire and many firemen from various fire brigades office, including Marol, were called.”
