Over 2,500 senior citizen pilgrims from the city will get a chance to board the Pandharpur Express at a subsidised fee of Rs50 each on Sunday morning.

The journey has been organised by the BJP. “It is the wish of many citizens to visit the annual Pandharpur pilgrimage at least once in life. This train will give them a chance to fulfill that wish,” BJP leader Vinod Tawde said.

The train, which will depart from platform number 10, will have a team of medics on board. It will depart from Dadar on Sunday morning and will return back on Tuesday.

A bhajan-mandali religious programme has been organised on board. The Pandharpur yatra, which began on June 23, is the annual pilgrimage from Dehu and Alandi in Pune to the Vithoba Temple at Pandharpur, Solapur. It will end on July 11 at Pandharpur on Ashadi Ekadashi. The Central Railway is also running special trains between Amravati Khamgaon and Pandharpur to clear the extra rush of pilgrims attending the Ashadi fair at Pandharpur.
