Commuters and pedestrians are facing problems due to negligence from the authorities to fix the traffic signal that is not working since one year at Durganagar Chowk, the busiest crossroad in the area.

The signal is located on the Nigdi-Talawade stretch near Bajaj Auto Ltd gate. The chowk, connecting Nigdi-Pradhikaran-Talawade Software Park and Bhosari-Telco Road-Yamunanagar, faces traffic chaos during the morning and evening hours leading to regular mishaps.

Commuters and residents have been demanding posting of traffic personnel to man the traffic and repair the signal since a long time.

Sayali Singh, a commuter residing at Shahunagar, Chinchwad, said, “I am scared to drive through the chowk, which I have to cross daily as my college is located in Nigdi-Pradhikaran area. Traffic is held up for at least half an hour during evening hours. The authorities have neglected the safety of commuters.’’

Residents near the chowk also find it difficult to cross the road. A senior citizen had recently died while crossing the stretch during
peak hours.Samrudhi Narayan, a resident of Nigdi, said, “How can two-wheeler riders be not worried about their safety at this killer chowk, which is crowded with Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) buses, rickshaws, industrial vehicles and school buses?’’

Speaking to DNA, assistant commissioner of police (traffic) Prashant Mohite, said, “Our department will examine the spot and find a solution. Instructions will be given to repair the signal soon.’’

The traffic official said the department has not yet received any complaint and it has shut down traffic signals at points where it had found them unnecessary.
