Four persons were injured when a speeding BMW, driven by Chembur resident Aarti Shetty, rammed into an autorickshaw near the Vashi checknaka on the Chembur-Vashi Highway on Thursday morning.

“Shetty’s blood sample report from Rajawadi Hospital revealed that she was drunk at the time of the incident,” said Shankarsinh Rajput, senior inspector of Mankhurd police station.

“The injured were identified as auto driver Mohammed Razak Sayyed, and passengers Mobina Sayyed, Mohammed Ali Sayyed and Nazir Sayyed. Mobina, who sustained head injury, was admitted to KEM Hospital, while the others are undergoing treatment at Rajawadi Hospital,” said Rajput.

An emergency operation was conducted on Mobina, who is critical, at 3pm. Doctors said that as there are no beds available in the ICU, they cannot shift her there. “Her chances of survival are slim,” said a doctor.

Shetty, who sustained a minor fracture on her right shoulder, was booked for rash and dangerous driving and causing grievous injuries under the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act. Shetty was discharged from Rajawadi after treatment and later released on a bail of Rs10,000.

The Sayyeds, who are  from Kurla, were going to meet their relatives at Nerul. Near the Vashi checknaka, the BMW rammed into the auto. Shetty, too, was driving to a relative’s place in Navi Mumbai, with two women, whose identities were not revealed.
