The Govandi police arrested an inebriated man for beating, abusing and manhandling two policemen at Deonar-Govandi on Thursday morning. “Harish Koli, 35, a resident of Deonar village, was arrested and charged with obstructing a government servant from performing his duty,” said an officer of the Govandi police station.
The incident took place at 1am, after a drunk Koli broke the windshield of a parked autorickshaw. When the owner of the autorickshaw, Dattatray Chorge, stopped Koli and screamed at him for damaging the vehicle, Koli reportedly abused and slapped him.
Constables Amol Gaikwad and Kishore, who were patrolling the area, tried to settle the issue, but Koli allegedly punched Gaikwad in the stomach and abused and manhandled Panchal.
After a few minutes of struggle, the two constables finally overpowered Koli and took him to the Govandi police station.
