On Sunday, around 10.30pm, Kamble, who works as a watchman nearby, came drunk to his home in Gomes Chawl at Shankarwadi in Jogeshwari (East). He then had dinner with Sandesh, 24, his elder son. After dinner, he went to sleep while Sandesh watched the IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils. The TV's volume was high, and Kamble told Sandesh to reduce it. Sandesh reduced it, but increased it again a little later.

Kamble, who was awake, became furious and admonished Sandesh, who retorted. They got into an argument. In the heat of the moment, Kamble picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed Sandeshin his chest.

"Neighbours heard Sandesh screaming and gathered at Kamble's house," sub-Inspector J Chavan of the Meghwadi police station said. "A few of them took Sandesh to Holy Spirit Hospital. A few others informed Kamble's younger son Sameer, who was playing carrom with friends, and his wife Madhuri, who works as a housemaid and was away at work in the nearby Apna Ghar Co-op Housing Society, about what had happened," Chavan said.

The neighbours then informed the Meghwadi police. Meanwhile, Sandesh died on his way to the hospital, the police said.

"Kamble drinks often, but I never imagined that his habit would cost my son his life," Madhuri said. "Kamble would often get into fights with us, but those fights never turned ugly," she said. Sandesh was doing a computer course. Sameer is in college and also works in a private company, the police said.
