DRDO’s Scientist of the Year award for Guruprasad

S Guruprasad, director of Research & Development Establishment (Engineers), Dighi, has been awarded the ‘Scientist of the Year’ award for 2011 by the Defence Research and Development Organisation.

S Guruprasad, director of Research & Development Establishment (Engineers), Dighi, has been awarded the ‘Scientist of the Year’ award for 2011 by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

As head of R&DE (E), Guruprasad is leading several important development projects in combat engineering, weapon launch systems, advanced composite products, nuclear, biological and chemical protection systems and robotic systems.

Guruprasad has been a key member of the design team of Project Sarvatra, a multi-span mechanical military bridging system. He has also worked on underwater launch systems. As project director for the BrahMos launchers and ground systems, he was instrumental in development of weapon complex elements.

He is an expert in computer-aided engineering, simulation-based design and product life cycle management systems. He has many technical publications to his credit in national and international journals.
 
Jangra bags gold at CME

Pradeep Jangra bagged the commandant’s gold medal for standing first and the silver medal for the best all-round gentlemen cadet at the passing-out parade of the TES-17 course of the cadets training wing of the College of
Military Engineering, Dapodi, on Saturday.

The best sportsman medal was awarded to Gaurav Jangir and Vipranshu Pandey was awarded the Rajput Regiment medal for best performance in outdoor training. The commandant’s banner for the champion platoon for spring term 2011 was awarded to Bravo Platoon.

A total of 154 gentlemen cadets took part in the parade, commanded by Wing Cadet Captain Pradeep Jangra and reviewed by Lt Gen Gautam Banerjee, commandant of the Officers Training Academy, Chennai.

NDA cadets excel at Delhi horse show

The National Defence Academy (NDA) riding and polo teams comprising seven cadets bagged 2 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze medals at the recently-concluded Delhi Horse Show 2011.
Cadet Pritam Mishra emerged the undisputed best rider in the team by winning the gold as well as silver medals in one of the toughest competitions, ‘Cadet jumping’, where he faced 50 competitors. He beat riders of the Indian Military Academy and Boys Sports Company who are professionally enrolled for the sport and have many years of riding experience.

He also won the gold in the ‘Young rider top score,’ a bronze in the ‘Young rider dressage’ and fifth position in the ‘Hunter trails.’
Others who did well included M Sangwan (2 bronze) in the ‘Young rider dressage’ and the ‘Hunter trails’, NB Sawant (bronze) in the ‘Cadet jumping’ as well as ‘Junior children rescue relay’ and Ravi Kadam (silver) in the ‘Junior Hacks.’
