Around 18 grade XI-passed students from Delhi Public School (DPS), Nerul, have allegedly been issued transfer certificates forcing them to leave the school.

Parents claim the school wants to get rid of them as they have not been able to perform well in grade XI and the school seeks 100% passing rate in grade XII. The school has refused to provide any reasoning on its part.

Jagdish Digwal, a businessman from Nerul, whose son Hemant was issued a transfer certificate, said, “How can the school be so cruel to students? They just want them to leave so that the school is able to maintain its 100% passing rate for grade XII. Isn’t it the school’s responsibility to improve their performance?”

“The school just wants to get rid of these students. They are not even providing any reason for their actions. Previously, when we had refused to accept the transfer certificate, we were threatened by the school that their results will be withheld. They even threatened to fail our kids,” added Digwal.

Repeated visits to school authorities, requesting them to take back the students have proven to be futile. The parents have now approached Forum for Fairness in Education, an NGO.

Jayant Jain, president of the forum, said, “We are trying to resolve the issue. However if the school remain adamant, we will move to court.” When contacted, the principal of DPS, PC Chhabra denied the allegations. “All this is false. We have not issued any leaving certificates,” he said.
