Raees Qureshi, accused of murdering Dr Hanif Baig and his wife Zarina in the presence of their five-year-old son in 2002, was granted bail by the Bombay high court on Thursday.

In his application, Qureshi, 33, contended he was not involved in the murder and had spent eight years in jail. Qureshi was arrested on March 23, 2002 since an anklet, a silver glass and a pair of earrings allegedly stolen from Baig’s house was found in his possession. But he claimed he could at the most be booked for stealing.

His advocate Anjali Patil also said that the toddler who witnessed his parents’ killing has identified Vijay Kumar, a co-accused, and not Qureshi. The court released him on a bail of Rs35,000 on Thursday.
