Dinosaurs are back in Mumbai, and accompanying them will be their few other animal friends from the prehistoric era, such as flying reptiles, woolly mammoths and saber-toothed tigers. The completely renovated hall of prehistoric life at Nehru Science Centre will be their new address from now on.

“It is the result for years of hard work and research. We studied in detail many minute things such how Dinosaurs used to walk or what would be the neck posture when they turn their neck? Depending on the study we made the structures and decided their movements,” said HP Mishra, curator of the hall. He mentioned that, it was our responsibility to bring out such ambiance which should match with that of prehistoric period.

The centre had previously hosted such hall from 2001 to 2007. However it was later closed and efforts were commenced to make it technologically more advance. “Initially the animals were not provided with animation and locomotion. The animals with fur were mentioned in words, but not shown. The ambiance was not as powerful as it is now. We decided to completely renovate and bring these new models in the hall,” said Mishra.

The hall has around 35 prehistoric animals on display and majority of them have been provided with animation and locomotion.
