Mystery continues to envelop the shocking case of Bhandup-based businessman Dinesh Jain, who killed his wife and daughters before committing suicide, as the motive behind Jain’s action remains unclear.

The bodies of the four deceased were handed over to Jain’s uncle Rodilal after the post-mortem at Rajawadi Hospital on Friday evening. Rodilal, along with 150 relatives and friends left for Udaipur, where the last rites of the deceased will be carried out at their native place. Meanwhile in Bhandup, many members of the Jain community who knew the deceased and his family have gone on a fast that will continue until the last rites of deceased are performed on Sunday morning.

Sheela Jain (name changed), a neighbour, said, “No one could have ever imagined that Jain would kill his daughters and wife and commit suicide. He was often seen playing with his daughters in the building complex.’’ The police have registered a case of murder against Jain under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. A senior police official said, “As of now we have only spoken to Jain’s sister-in-law Ramila. The motive behind his actions will be clear only after we talk to his parents and older brother.”

The police had also found a hurriedly-packed bag in Jain’s flat, containing his wife Monica’s clothes and belongings, which could point to a possible quarrel between Jain and his wife that night. With the prima facie investigation done in this case, the police suspect that there could be some internal family dispute or problem which could have led Jain to take this extreme step.
