Inspite of the prices of small cars being increased in the Union budget, the demand is not going down. On the occasion of Gudi Padva, nearly 4,500 new private vehicles including 1,500 new cars and 3,000 two-wheelers will hit Pune’s roads on Friday.

The number of vehicles in the city has already crossed the 23-lakh mark and on Friday, these new 4,500 private vehicles will add to the city’s traffic volume on Gudi Padva which is considered as one of the most auspicious days.

This year also, people are buying new vehicles on Gudi Padva despite the increase in their price. According to officials of regional transport office (RTO), generally on an average, 100 four-wheelers and 350 vehicles are registered with the RTO every day, but because of Gudi Padva, the registration has increased. In the last five days, every day, 300 four-wheelers and 600 two-wheelers were registered.

The officials also said that this year, the number of new vehicles hitting the city’s roads is more compared to last year. In 2010, nearly 1,000 cars and 2,200 two-wheelers had hit the roads on the occasion of Gudi Padva.
