Central Railway services were disrupted on Tuesday after two incidents in the morning and evening peak hours on the Mumbai-Kalyan-Karjat section. A ballast-carrying wagon derailed near Wangni, ahead of Badlapur station, disrupting services early in the morning.
A local train developed a snag near Ambernath in the evening but it did not affect services.
A CR spokesperson said two wheels of a ballast-carrying wagon derailed on a crossover point at about 545am. Due to the derailment, mail-express trains were delayed in the morning.
“The fault was rectified by 7.15am and normal services resumed,” he added. Ballast wagons are used for track maintenance and to set the level of tracks in proper position.
In the evening, a Karjat-CST local train developed a snag in one of its motor coaches, leading to a unit failure. The train had to be cancelled and sent for repairs. “The incident happened around 4.15pm, but did not affect services. Except the faulty train, no other services were cancelled and commuter traffic was not affected,” he added.
