Deepti Chauhan’s relatives assault her in-laws

Following the death of Deepti Chauhan, her parents and relatives vented their anger on her in-laws and reportedly assaulted her brother-in-law and his wife at Kasturba hospital where her body was taken by the police for post mortem.

“Deepti told her brother that her brother in-law Bharat and his wife Sarla had made allegations about her character, stating that she was having an extra-marital affair. They also alleged that Siddhesh was not Nilesh’ son. Deepti’s relatives alleged that she was harassed by her in-laws and was considered unlucky for the family. Her in-laws also held Deepti responsible for the losses that Nilesh suffered in his business,” said police inspector GS Randive.

He added that Deepti had been telling her family about the trauma and harassment she had been subjected to by her in-laws. 

“The parents were already upset with the ill-treatment and harassment that Deepti was being put through and when they learnt that Deepti had jumped to death along with Siddhesh, their anger crossed all boundaries. Her parents rushed to Kasturba hospital and when they saw Bharat and Sarla, they assaulted the couple,” said a police official on condition of anonymity, adding that, the matter was resolved after other relatives intervened.

“Soon after their marriage, there had been rift between Deepti and her in-laws. A couple of years later, due to harassment by the in-laws, Deepti had returned to her maternal home at Tardeo and stayed there for six months,” said a police official.
