The final word on Gopinath Munde’s fate is expected to be taken on Sunday. A meeting with state in-charge of the party Venkaiah Naidu failed to reconcile differences.

Another meeting with the party president Nitin Gadkari and Lal Krishna Advani is expected on Sunday, before any announcement is made. Munde, on the other hand, has said, “The ball is now firmly in the party high command’s court and it is entirely up to them  to take a decision.”

Munde and his supporters were also present at the meeting at the Naidu residence on Saturday evening. After the meeting Naidu said he was hopeful about the successful resolution of the issue.

He said that he had spoken at length with Munde and the party high command would be accordingly apprised on Sunday. “I’m confident the issue will be sorted out after discussions with the senior party leaders on Sunday,” he insisted.

Earlier, Munde who reached Delhi for the evening meeting had said there was no question of leaving the party. However, after the meeting he said, “I have put up my case with Naidu and now its up to the leadership to decide on the issue.”

Though the second rung party leadership is hopeful about an amicable solution on the issue, the significance of top party brass like Gadkari, opposition leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitely staying away from the meeting was not lost on political observers. For the record their absence was being linked to their begin away in Uttarakhand.

Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar has clarified on Saturday that rumours about him talking to Munde were baseless.

“Our party has not given any offer to Munde. His recent meeting with the party leaders Madhukar Pichad and Chhagan Bhujbal was a mere meeting. We have not made him any offer, “  said Pawar who added, “Munde’s current face-off with party leadership is their internal affair and NCP is not concerned with it.”
