Mumbai: A school principal, 47, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself, owing to mental depression, at her residence at LBS Road on Saturday night.
She was suffering from menopausal depression and was taking medicines for it. She was also troubled by her daughter's marks for the engineering examinations and thought she had not scored well.
According to the police, the deceased, Anju Kakkar, had hanged herself from the ceiling fan using a dupatta at her residence in Vasant Oscar building. Her husband Arun found her when he reached home, and rushed her to Mulund general hospital, where she was declared dead before admission. Arun runs a powerloom unit in Bhiwandi and his daughter is pursuing an engineering course from a renowned institute in Manipal at Karnataka.
The police said that Kakkar came to know about her daughter's results in her mid-term examinations. She had been undergoing treatment for depression for the past two years and the news of her daughter's results aggravated her condition, which might have led her to commit suicide, the police added.
Uttam Chopne, assistant commissioner of police, said, "Kakkar was a school principal at Kalyan and her daughter had always been a very bright student. News of her bad performance in examinations might have disturbed her."
Police said they have not found any suicide note.
