Jyoti Shelar In light of the recent controversy over wireless fidelity (WiFi) network connection, Maharashtra police have joined hands with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) to secure the WiFi network across the state.

This initiative comes after American national Ken Haywood alleged misuse of his network as well as the recent terror threats which were sent using the insecure WiFi network in Navi Mumbai and Khalsa College in Matunga.

"After the recent terror threats several people have approached me to know how they can secure their WiFi network," said cyber expert Vijay Mukhi.

Mukhi added that most people fear that they too could become suspects.

However, Mukhi will conduct two hour sessions in colleges across the state, to teach students how to secure the network. "Once they are well versed with the process, the students will be asked to secure the networks in offices, residential building, etc," said Mukhi.

The programme will kick-start on September 1 at the NMIMS campus and will target 12 colleges in one month. "I will take four routers of insecure WiFi network and teach the students one by one to secure them. However, the process is a bit long and it would at least two hours to teach a person how to secure the network," added Mukhi.
