The Pune rural police on Friday announced that prior permission would be mandatory to take out marriage processions on five important roads under its jurisdiction.

These roads include Pune-Satara, Pune-Ahmednagar, Pune-Nashik, Pune-Solapur and Pune-Phaltan roads.

They also said that the use of loudspeakers during such events should be restricted to the permissible decibel limit. Vehicles that travel along with marriage processions would have to take special permission from the regional transport office (RTO).

Superintendent of police (Pune rural), Pratap Dighavkar, on Friday held a meeting with owners of marriage halls located on Pune-Satara Road, Pune-Ahmednagar Road, Pune-Nashik
Road, Pune-Solapur Road and Pune-Phaltan Road.

Dighavkar told the hall owners that traffic snarls increase during marriage season as marriage processions restrict smooth movement of vehicles on roads.

“Moreover, the vehicles with such processions play loud music, which is very disturbing,” Dighavkar said, adding that such vehicles fitted with loudspeakers and music systems would not be permitted to ply along the national and state highways unless prior permission is taken from the RTO. Dhigavkar warned of stern action against hall owners and wedding organisers if they were found to violate the order.
