Students applying for junior college through the cultural quota would be able to do so only after they produce certificates from the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, a government resolution (GR) said. The GR defined admission criteria under the cultural and sports quota, which is 2% and 3% respectively.

The GR stated that students applying under the quota need to have excelled in either Std VIII, IX or X, and not necessarily all three years. An earlier GR had said that students, who seek admission under the quota, need to pass an exam conducted by Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya and would have to excel in performances in Std VIII, IX or X.

According to the GR, for the sports quota, students need to win the first or second position at district, state and national level sports. Also, under the new policy, colleges that do not get enough applicants under the sports quota can fill the seats with applicants from cultural activities and vice versa. If seats are still vacant, the colleges can allot the reserved seats to open category students.
