Anandharasu Chinappa, who managed to escape from the custody of two Tamil Nadu policemen escorting him at Dadar on April 12, was arrested in Pattukkotai town in the southern state’s Nagapattinam district on April 28.

Inspector Ravindra Dalvi of the Dadar railway police station said: “We have got a written communication from the Velankanni police on May 5, saying that they have arrested the criminal. He was produced before the Nagapattinam judicial court, which remanded him in judicial custody till May 13.” He added that Chinappa is lodged at the Trichy central prison.

There were many cases of burglary registered against him at the Velankanni police station a couple of years ago. He had evaded arrest since.

Chinappa, 25, was nabbed by immigration officers at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on April 10 after his arrival from Singapore on a Jet Airways flight. They then informed the Nagapattinam police.

The Nagapattinam police sent a two-member police team — sub inspector Sheikh Rehman and head constable Aramugham — to get his custody. The police team arrived in Mumbai on April 12.

After getting him into custody, the police team reached Dadar around 2pm. Around 7.30pm, he requested cops to let him free to urinate. As soon as they freed him, he hit both of them and managed to escape.
