As the season three of Indian Premier League (IPL), was off to a rousing start in Mumbai yesterday, a city-based cricket fan has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the public interest against the organisers, including IPL chairman Lalit Modi and Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) demanding better facilities and uninterrupted traffic on Wardha Road here during the matches to be held in the city on April 5, 10 and 12.

The State government, through commissioner of police, superintendent of police (Nagpur Rural), National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), VCA chairman, besides IPL chairman, have been made respondents in the PIL case.

The plea is likely to come up for hearing in front of newly-constituted principal divisional bench comprising justices-Sharad Bobde and Pramod Kode on Monday. It was filed by Harish Dhapodkar, a resident of Wardha Road here.

Through his PIL, Dhapodkar claimed that Wardha Road, the approach road to VCA's Jamtha stadium, proves to be inadequate during the one-day or T-20 matches as it is also one of the busiest national highways where thousands of vehicles pass.

In October last year, during the first one-day international match between India and Australia, a youth lost his life in a mishap due to a huge traffic jam on the road.
