Union minister of state for Commerce and Industry, Jyotiraditya Scindia today said that the country needs true social workers than politicians for its development.

Scindia was here to address a rally organised by Congress candidate Raosaheb Shekhawat, son of President Pratibha Patil, contesting from Amravati for October 13 Maharashtra Assembly polls.

"Today, our country needs a true social worker and not a politician. True social workers are those who obey the orders of the party," he said, adding that Raosaheb was indeed one.

Scindia, an MP from Guna, also appealed to join Congress ideology for the development of the country. "I am starting my election campaign in Maharashtra from the constituency of Raosaheb Shekhawat, who was closely associated with my father, late Madhavrao Scindia," he said.

Criticising the BJP, Scindia said that the party tried to change the definition of politics, and introduced caste-based politics.

NDA government used to give only Rs63,000crores to the state for development, which the Congress-led UPA government took to Rs1,83,000crores, he said.

Criticising the BJP slogan during Lok Sabha elections-"strong leadership and decisive government," -he said that BJP presented Lalkrishna Advani as a strong leader, who himself bowed his head before the tomb of Mohammad Ali Jinnah in Pakistan.

On the other hand, Indira Gandhi put the example of strong leadership during the separation of Bangladesh from Pakistan, and Manmohan Singh exhibited what a decisive government meant during the atomic energy deal with America, he said.

"BJP remembers Lord Rama only at the time of election, but does not declare the date of construction of Ram temple," he said.

"Spiritual power is the real asset of India, and not communalism," said Scindia.
