A special investigation team (SIT), set up to collect documentary evidence related to all movable and immovable properties of senior Congress leader Kripashankar Singh as ordered by the Bombay high court, on Friday attached all properties owned by Singh and his family across the city.

During the raids that began at 8am, over 120 police personnel seized 12 immovable properties, including a duplex flat with terrace at Vile Parle, a bungalow on Carter Road, two flats, two offices and a plot in Bandra, a shop at Bhandup, and a shop and two flats, including one he obtained through the chief minister’s quota in Powai, and a flat in Kurla, said sources. Only one of 12 properties in the city has been registered under Singh’s name; the rest are owned by his wife, son, daughter and son-in-law, said police sources.

Besides, two BMW cars, a weapon and a few cartridges were seized from one of the properties, said police sources. “We have attached all immovable and movable properties belonging to him and his family members in Mumbai. The process of attaching the properties of Singh and his kin outside the city — in Panvel, Ratnagiri and Uttar Pradesh — is underway,” said an officer who is a part of the investigation.

The officers put up notices on the properties, which stated that they should not be used by anyone or be tampered with. The notice that was put up at the Carter Road bungalow, where Singh’s son, Narendra Mohan, lived, was signed by assistant commissioner of police Suhas Rane.

An agitated Mohan allegedly made an obscene gesture to the mediapersons gathered outside his bungalow.

The Bombay high court had on February 22 ordered the prosecution of Singh for “criminal misconduct” under the Prevention of Corruption Act and attachment of properties owned by him. His family members were alleged to have abetted the commission of offence.

The raids come three days after the police lodged an FIR against Singh and his family for possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.
