The city police have decided to intensify patrolling in the lanes dotted with jewellery shops.

Moved by the plight of jewellers, the city police have decided to intensify patrolling in the lanes dotted with jewellery shops. The police have also fixed points where armed policemen can be seen guarding the steets.
After a meeting with police commissioner Arup Patnaik, DCP’s of zone VIII, IX and X have started providing additional security in their zones for the jewellers. “We have issued a list of do’s and don’ts to the jewelers. We have also increased the presence of policemen on the streets. While the security in the lanes with jewellery shops have been intensified, there is an increased number of fixed points where you can see armed policemen sitting under umbrellas,” said DCP (Zone VIII) Satyanarayan Choudhary. There is more security Zone IX and X have also been witnessing increasing combing and nakabandi operations during peak hours. “We have been meeting the jewellers, jewellery manufacturers, couriers and the business-related units. We are reviewing our patrolling plans,” said Suhas Varke, DCP (Zone X).
Amongst the list of do’s and don’ts for the jewellers is installing of CCTV cameras and alarms.
“The alarms and cameras can often act as deterrents’ for the offenders,” added Choudhary, stressing on the need for jewellers to do police verifications of their employees.
