A minor injury on the hand of an employee led police to crack a theft case in which cash worth Rs4.5 lakh were stolen from the locker of a Juhu-based hotel.
“Nareshwar Gupta, the assistant manager of the hotel denied having any knowledge about the theft. But, on being asked about the injury on one of his hand, he gave contradictory statements. This raised our suspicion on him,” said a police officer.
“Upon interrogation he confessed that the injury was sustained while he was trying to jump the hotel wall after stealing the cash from the locker using fake keys,” the officer added.
According to the police the incident happened on December 26 at Hotel Paujab Grill located at JVPD scheme in Juhu. The police recovered the stolen cash after Gupta’s arrest.
