Content is the king in today's world of journalism and a newspaper cannot survive if it compromises on the quality of the content, said Abhilash Khandekar, Maharashtra state head of Dainik Bhaskar Group on Tuesday.

He was speaking as the keynote speaker at a seminar on 'Current trends, opportunities and challenges in print and electronic media' organised by Suryadatta School of Communication Studies in the city. The seminar was organised on the eve of 'National Journalism Day'.

Working chairman of Maharashtra State Hindi Literature Academy (MSHA), Damodar Khadase was the chief guest. Chairman of Maharashtra state folk-literature committee, Keshav Phalke and programme executive of Pune Akashwani, Sunil Deodhar were guests of honour. Founder president of Suryadatta Group of Institutes (SGI), Sanjay Chordiya was present on the occasion.

Khandekar said that although there are some shortcomings in the media today, the scene is not bad. Advertising is not dominating the editorial department. It is realised that if content is not good, then the newspaper would not get advertisements.

He said a newspaper would not survive if it compromises on quality of the content.

The biggest challenge before the media is to ensure quality content considering the changing tastes of readers.

Journalists Umesh Ghongade (Sakal), Samir Kodilkar (Prabhat), Swapnil Pore (Kesari), Dinesh Thite (DNA), Parag Potdar (Lokmat), Arun Nigawekar (Samana), Swapnil Bapat (Sam Marathi), Mandar Gonjari (Star Maza), Pratibha Chandran (Sahara Samay), Narendra Chavan (Next Gen) and Appa Dingankar were felicitated on the occasion.
