The standing committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Tuesday approved the proposal to appoint a consultant to prepare the design and execute ‘Shiv Srushti’ project, a grand memorial of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, in Kothrud.
The standing committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Tuesday approved the proposal to appoint a consultant to prepare the design and execute ‘Shiv Srushti’ project, a grand memorial of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, in Kothrud.
Chairman of standing committee, Ganesh Bidkar, told reporters about the decision. The civic administration had floated tenders in November 2010. Four consultants filed tenders for the purpose. Out of them, ND’s Art World Pvt Ltd and Sandip Shikre and Associates, Mumbai, were selected as joint venture.
These consultants have shown readiness to work for a fee of 7% of the cost project.
Municipal commissioner, Mahesh Pathak, said in his proposal before the committee that Shiv Srushti is a unique project of historic importance. It would be the largest project of its kind in the country. The city would get a special identity, thanks to its international standards.
He said that in the project, life and achievements of Shivaji would be introduced to the citizens. The times of Shivaji would be recreated in the project. Amusement park, hotel, parking and museum would also be built.
He said that the consultant would be required to guide the PMC on how the project should be made economically viable by introducing various modern aspects in the memorial.
He said that proper conciliation of historic and modern aspects needs to be taken into consideration while providing facilities in the project. The consultant would be required to provide various services for the project.
He said that the fee of the consultants would be deducted from the budget head of Rs8.8 crore for managing PMC colonies and establishing Shiv Srushti in Kothrud.
