A city court on Sunday remanded the husband of a 26-year-old woman constable in two-day police custody for having unnatural sex with her and harassing her mentally and physically.

The victim had registered a complaint with the Yerawada police on July 7. The police said the victim got married to Sameer Rafiq Khan (34) on March 8, 2008. Soon after, Khan started suspecting the victim’s character and pressurised her to leave her job.

The victim’s mother-in-law, Shamabi Rafiq Khan, and Sameer’s uncles have also been booked, but are on the run. The prosecution also alleged that 25 tolas of gold ornaments belonging to the victim are yet to be recovered from the suspects.

ITI student hangs himself
A student of the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Aundh allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with the help of a nylon rope in Lonavla on Sunday afternoon.

According to the police, 22-year-old Mayur Vilas Nagwade left behind a suicide note stating, ‘I am responsible for my death.’ Senior police inspector Vishnu Pawar is investigating the case.

Youth kills self
Shivaji Pandurang Gaikwad, a construction labourer committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in the early hours of Saturday at Balajinagar Chowk in Bhosari.

On Saturday night, Gaikwad went to his relatives’ house but didn’t return home. The incident came to light, when locals saw his body hanging from a tree.
