Lone surviving Pakistani gunman, Mohammad Ajmal Kasab, was all smiles and showed no signs of nervousness today, even as the court recorded his final statement on the evidence adduced by the prosecution against him.

Clad in a starched white kurta and pyjama, a clean-shaven Kasab was made to stand in the witness box for the first time, as against the usual practice of making him sit in the dock.

With one hand on his waist and the other on the stand, Kasab was seen smiling and smirking after answering every question put forth by special judge ML Tahaliyani.

Kasab, who was answering the questions confidently, often turned to see special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam and mediapersons. Irked by this, the court scolded Kasab not to turn around and look at others present in court.

Kasab, in his statement, also used English and Marathi words like "contradict" and "Atireki (terrorist in Marathi), prompting the judge to ask where he picked up these words from.

"Yahan pe saare log bolte rehte hai Atireki...Urdu main iska matlab hai Dahashatwadh..(Everyone here in the court keep using this word 'Terrorist'..Even in Urdu it means terrorist)," the gunman said.

Kasab once also mumbled about the judge not allowing him to complete his statement saying, "Aap poori baat bolne hi nahi de rahe hain...(you are not allowing me to finish what I want to say)."
