A businessman and his wife had a narrow escape whenconcrete fell on his car at the metro rail construction site near JP Road in Andheri (W) on Wednesday. His car was damaged in the incident.
The victim, Samir Shah, has filed a complaint with the DN Nagar police.

The incident has once again raised the safety of commuters. At least six people were killed in seven mishaps at the metro rail construction site so far.

According to Shah, the incident happened near Sony Mony showroom along the JP Road in Andheri (West) at around 7:20am when he and his wife were on their way home in their car.

“To my horror, a cement mix meant to be used for construction, came crashing down and it hit me on my face. Apparently, construction workers misfired the cement and did not get the elevation to go over my car,” said Samir.

“The cement hit me very close to my eyes.”The complainant claimed that he took up the matter up with the on-site supervisor, N Karunakaran of M/SVijay Nirman Company Pvt. Ltd.
The supervisor reportedly promised to compensate all damages to the car. “However, he (supervisor) later during the day, backtracked on his words,” he said.

Shah alleged that no one from the police or the MMRDA have taken any action on his complaint. Senior police inspector VD Bhoite of DN Nagar police station said, “The case was a non-cognizable offence. Investigation is on in the case.”
MMRDA spokesperson Dilip Kawathkar said any responsibility of such smaller mishaps was with the Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL)-the Reliance Infrastructure led consortium which has been constructing the metro line. “I will inquire with their officials about what action has been taken against the workers and the status of the compensation,” Kawathkar told DNA.

This is not a first mishap on the 11km metro line running from Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar. After the metro construction began in February 2008, there have been seven mishaps on the alignment. As many as six people have lost their lives in these mishaps.
