Home minister RR Patil on Friday said the eight topmost officers, involved in the bulletproof jacket deal in 2002, have been asked to clarify the missing file of the tendering process.
Most of the documents related to the deal have been found after the minister cracked the whip. But a few key documents are still missing.
The officers under question are: principal secretary (home) PK Jain, additional DGP Subhash Avate, joint commissioner of police (administration) Bhagwant More, DIG (prison) Rajnish Sheth, DCPs Vijaysinh Jadhav, Sanjay Apranti, SR Paraskar and Ashutosh Dumbare.
Patil said the decision on the action would be taken by DGP AN Roy — who is investigating the case — after the clarification is received from the eight officers concerned.
Patil had announced in the second week of December that the officials responsible for the safeguard of the file that went missing will be sacked in 10 days. Shortly after the announcement, the file was found, but without some major discrepancies.
The issue became controversial after the police department answered an RTI query that the file of the deal was missing.
About the state’s plan to procure 2,500 new bulletproof vests, Patil said his department had requested the central government to buy the stuff on its behalf.
“The companies supplying the briefs did not match with our quality specifications. We get the funds from the central government to buy such vests. So, we have requested them to supply us the stuff instead of funds,” he added.
The home department is also expected to take decision about the financial help to Pravin Mahajan who is being treated in a Thane hospital for the past two weeks.
“His relatives have given a fresh request for the financial aid and I am reviewing the file on Saturday,” Patil said.
