Contenders seeking ways to catch voters’ attention are turning to catchy film song tunes with the Tamil-English hit, ‘Why this kolaveri di’, topping the list.

They hope to project themselves, their promises and also the party policies to attract the common voters.

Studios in the city as well as Mumbai are now busy, recording songs for the election candidates.

Use of catchy tunes is a favourite option of candidates, more so when they feel there is not much time left.

Candidates are also planning one-act plays and mimicry shows to attract mass voters. One candidate of Nigdi-Pradhikaran area has made use of ‘Vasudev’, traditional folk artistes.

Shree Vinayak Films Kala Manch president, Bhausaheb Sangle, said the studios usually offer a package comprising four songs.

Two to three days are required to prepare the compact discs and digital video discs for the candidates.

The candidates also seek songs based on the tunes of ‘Chikni chameli’, ‘Radha hi bawri’, ‘Mera hi jalwa’ and also ‘Aya re aya re bodyguard.’

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate from ward 76 (Katraj Maulinagar) Bharti Kadam’s supporters are cashing on the craze for the film Singham.

The film, that has Ajay Devgn in the lead, is about a committed police officer.

Kadam’s women supporters are using the slogan ‘Bharti Kadam Singham hai, baki sab chingam hai’, a play on the word ‘Singham’, which has become a topic of discussion among citizens.
