Civic polls: Deccan Gym candidates sign charter

The National Society for Clean Cities (NSCC), at its ‘Know your candidate’ programmes  in the city, is persuading aspirants to sign and accept its charter of demands. Wanting to project themselves in a positive light, the candidates are only happy to do so.

When Deccan Gymkhana Mohalla Committee and the NSCC held its programme on Sunday, candidates Suresh Lande of the Congress; Kamal Sathe, Congress; Prabhavati Ram Borkar, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS); Madhuri Sahasrabudhe, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP); Sumedha Bhosale, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP); and Ameya Jagtap of NCP signed the charter of demands for panel number 36.

Sahasrabudhe, who is stepping into politics for the first time, told DNA, “Signing the charter means I will do clean work with the help of residents of the ward.”

Ram Borkar, whose wife Prabhavati is the MNS candidate, said on her behalf, “Signing a charter shows that we are ready to work for the people. These are written promises that we are giving to the people and people’s demands are the most important for any corporator.”

“It is great to know that the citizens are actively involved in the development of the ward, but I feel this kind of awareness needs to be taken to the vasti areas to make the people understand that making the representatives work for them for the entire tenure is much more important than taking some money or gifts a few days before the elections,” said Bhosale.

The youngest NCP candidate, Ameya Jagtap, 26, said, “We are dealing with citizens who are aware of their rights and talk openly about their needs. The charter that I have signed had demands with which I have been actively involved for a long time now.”
