There seems to be no end to the woes of students of Bishop’s High School and St Mary’s School and commuters on General Bhagat Singh Marg, as the road is constantly submerged under water.

The constant water leakage from the school pipeline has caused inconvenience to all. The authorities working on the problem are also in a fix, as they have not been able to find the fault even after a month of checks.

Principal of Bishops’ school, Frank Freese, told DNA that the school is ready to co-operate with the authorities.

“The school is facing this problem since the last couple of years. We have diverted the water through pipelines near our playground, or else the playground would be wet and unsuitable for students to play. I have blocked all the old lines on our campus. I have also written to the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB), the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and other authorities, but the problem has still not been fixed,” he said.

Bishop’s school kept their office staff washrooms closed for quite some time and got the drainage lines repaired. But the water now flows outside the gate and near the playground.

“It is a health hazard for us, and I am worried about it,” he added. Interestingly, authorities of St Mary’s school refused to talk to the media on the issue.

PCB officer VS Kulkarni said, “I am aware of the problem, but since it does not come under our jurisdiction, we cannot do anything about it.”

PMC deputy engineer Dattatreya Waugh said, “There are no drainage lines in the area and the existing pipelines are 50 to 60 years old. It is difficult to locate the problem. We have to keep digging the road at various places to find out the fault.

“Actually, the area belongs to the military, and they are very strict about road digging. We have already paid fines. We need permission to dig the centre of the road. It will take nearly a week to fix the problem,” he said.
