The movie may extol its cool with a title like Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum but it has raised the hackles of the Christian community because of what they allege is a derogatory portrayal of their religion.

After a meeting the group lodged a complaint with the Mahim police under Sec 295 A of IPC. for “deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings.” . “The community has borne this ridicule by Bollywood for far too long and we want this to be an example that this shall not be tolerated anymore,” said advocate Joe Sodder of the Association of Concerned Catholics (AOCC). “Depending on what action the police take, we will be constrained to move the courts if necessary.”

The AOCC, the Maharashtra Christian Youth Forum (MCYF)  and the Catholic Secular Forum (CSF) also met with the Censor Board authorities to register their protest against the disrespectful portrayal of a Catholic priest administering the sacrament of holy matrimony in to a dog and a bitch a scene from Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum.

They want an apology be tendered within 48 hours in the media by the producer, director and actors and for the said scenes to be deleted immediately.

“This scene has mocked  one of the seven sacraments held holy by the Community which can be administered only by a priest.
“The bitch is shown to be a reincarnation of the late mother of Anupam Kher’s character. What is worse, the movie shows the priest endorsing the reincarnation which the Gospel does not talk about,” points out a livid Judith Monteiro of the AOCC. Others like Agnelo Fernandes, President MCYF said, “We are surprised that Ekta Kapoor who never loses any opportunity to let her own religiosity be publicly known should be so cavalier when it comes to the religious feelings of another community”.

Bishop Agnelo Gracias who spoke to DNA lamented that Bollywood often chose to ridicule and stereotype his community. “What is the point of going on showing Christians as alcoholics, as excessively westernised and people of loose moral character?” he asked and added, “Given Bollywood’s reach, such stereotypes only create a wrong perception of the community among people at large.”
