Several persons complained of breathing problems and eye irritation following a gas leak from a chemical company at Kalyan in neighbouring Thane district this morning.
"Due to leaking of chloride gas from the main tank of the company AS Chemopharma at Murbad road in Kalyan, people living in the vicinity suffered from breathing problem and eye irritation," fire brigade officials said.
The company immediately plugged the leak, officials said adding no one was hospitalised.
"The company was not at fault and the leak was an accident," PD Jagtap, field officer of the Pollution Control Board said after visiting the site this morning.
The company produces PTS Chloride and OTS Chloride used for pharmaceutical purposes.
This is second instance of gas leak in the metropolis. On July 14, over 100 persons fell sick after inhaling chlorine gas leaking from a cylinder stored in Bombay Port Trust premises at Sewri in Mumbai.
