It was a moment of pride for the Shri Chitrapur Math on Sunday when the 300-year-old math was honoured with a special commemorative Indian postage stamp to acknowledge its work in the field of social work.
The stamp was released in the presence of the spiritual leader of the math, Parama Pujya Shrimat Sadyojat Shankarashram Swamiji, Faiz ur Rehman, chief post master general (Maharashtra Circle), and Gurudas Kamat, member of Parliament.
The math is based in the Shirali village in Karnataka. It runs schools, spiritual institutions, provides interest free loans to the poor. It also has in its possession historically important sculptures, artefacts, palm leaf records, books and literature dating from 300 BCE to 1800 BCE. “We are proud to be associated with the math,” said Rehman while inaugurating the stamp.
